Renee Powell, PGA/LPGA, Joins Advisory Board For Scooter Pines Holdings
Scooter Pines Holdings, LLC continues to build an impressive advisory board filled with golf industry leaders with the addition of Renee Powell, one of only four African-American women ever to play on the LPGA Tour. Scooter Pines Holdings is a multi-media company that includes former LPGA star and current NBC/Golf Channel personality Dottie Pepper as a partner.
Powell is a recognized name in golf. She is the daughter of the late William Powell, the only African-American to design, build, own and operate a golf course in the United States. She played professionally from 1967 through 1980. Since then, she has been teaching golf and serves as the head professional at her family's Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, Ohio.
"Renee is one of the leading ambassadors for the game of golf, both here in the United States and internationally," said Robert B. Levin, managing partner for Scooter Pines Holdings. "We look forward to her input and guidance as we continue to build the 'Bogey' franchise in the golfing world."
Earlier this year, Scooter Pines Holdings launched a series of children's books featuring a golf ball character, Bogey Ballton. The first book, Bogey Tees Off: A Lesson About Being Truthful, was co-written by Pepper and Scott Fuller and illustrated by Kenneth Templeton. The company is planning a series of 18 books and is also developing additional products around the character.
Powell joins Mary Bea Porter-King as the first members of the company's advisory board. In this capacity, they will assist the company in identifying opportunities for its products and the Bogey character.
"I kept seeing references to Bogey on Dottie's Facebook page. Once I learned what she was doing and how the messages are being developed for kids, I knew I wanted to be a part of it," said Powell.
In addition to her playing career on Tour, Powell has received numerous honors and awards. She is a member of the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Justice Award. In golf, she has received the Jack Nicklaus Golf Family of the Year from the National Golf Foundation; Executive Women's Golf Association Leadership Award; PGA First Lady of Golf from The PGA of America; and Top Female Teaching Professionals from Golf Digest. She was the first female golfer to receive an Honorary Doctorate of Laws Degree (L.L.D.) from St. Andrews University.
In addition to Bogey Tees Off: A Lesson About Being Truthful, Scooter Pines Holdings has developed two posters featuring Bogey and golf ball themes to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation and Navy SEAL Foundation. For more information on the company and these products, visit www.bogeyteesoff.com
