Golf Channel Am Tour National Champion Pete DeTemple Competes In The U.S. Senior Open
ORLANDO, Fla., July 11, 2012 - Pete DeTemple captured the Golf Channel Am Tour National Championship in his first year competing on the Tour in 2009. This week, he is looking to capitalize on that magic when he tees it up in his first major championship - the U.S. Senior Open at Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion, Mich.
Competing as an amateur at the U.S. Senior Open, DeTemple, 50, earned low medalist honors at the U.S. Senior Open championship qualifier at Laurel Creek Country Club in Mt. Laurel, N.J. in June with a 3-under par 68. The Callaway, Md., resident will be competing in his first professional tournament.
"This is a dream come true," said DeTemple following his round at Laurel Creek last month. "I can't stop smiling."
DeTemple, who works for Great Mills Trading Post, an excavation company, has been participating on the Golf Channel Am Tour since 2009. He won the championship flight at the 2009 GCAT National Championships at PGA West, and has qualified to compete in the national championships every year since. He finished eighth overall in 2011, and has qualified to competed in the 2012 GCAT National Championships at TPC Sawgrass in September.
"I'm looking forward to playing alongside some of the best players in the history of the game this week in my first major championship here at the U.S. Senior Open," said DeTemple following his practice round Wednesday. "My experience competing on the Golf Channel Am Tour the past few years will be invaluable for me this week."
